Hopi Sterling Overlay Bracelet by Cyrus Josytewa Jr.
Cyrus is from the Snow Clan of Shungopavi, Second Mesa. He began silver work in 1993.
Bracelet measures one inch in width and tapers to 5/8" at the ends.
It has a circumference of 5-3/4" plus a 1" gap.
The bracelet may be gently squeezed or stretched to customize fit.
Stamped 'Sterling 925' with the artist's name and Snow Clan hallmark.
Excellent condition and craftsmanship.
Overlay consists of a piece of silver with a 'negative' design cut out of it and soldered onto a sheet of plain silver.
The inside of the design is oxidized to appear blackened in contrast to the polished silver.
After the silver has cooled, the design is textured with tiny chisels and a rawhide hammer.
Genuine Hopi silversmithing has a distinctively fine quality that is recognized worldwide.
If desired, the small areas of patina that develop over time may be buffed with a polishing cloth.
