Navajo Folk Art
Mud Toy Storyteller by Rose Herbert
3-3/4" high by 3-3/4" long by 3" wide
Rose Herbert lives near the 'Four Corners' region of Sweetwater, Arizona.
She shaped this lovely storyteller by hand from native gathered clay, dried it in the sun,
and brought her to life with earthy paint hues. Her traditional Navajo hair bun
and the childrens' hair are made of natural dark brown sheep's wool.
Historical recordings of Navajo folk art date to the 1870s when it was noted that simple
mud toy figures were being made to teach Navajo children about traditions and responsibilities.
